About us

Our History

About 14 years ago, Washington Luli Parish was based in a mechanic workshop, turned into a place of worship, off Bladensburg Road. The Holy Spirit instructed Rev. Charles Agbaza (Shepherd) to lead seven prophets/tesses and seven ushers to the new building we had purchased at 62 chillum place N.E., Washington DC in order to conduct a sanctification exercise. He was told that we should go around in a circle 7 times. He was also made to understand that the commission was likened to the Israelites siege of Jericho.

As we did the 7th final round, the prophets, who now were in spirit, said The Lord has given us a new name. The particular prophet who was going to be used to give us the new name was choking. Rev. Agbaza, the shepherd and leader of the group, prayed and said that “by the grace by which CCC came into being referred to in heavenly parlance as LULI”, the prophet’s voice opened and echoed saying, yes that is the name – “LULI.”

Another prophet said the spiritual altar where we worshipped had been removed for us to start our own worship from where we had been. Some members, vehemently, objected to the new name. They insisted and so we checked with the then Pastor – Rev A. A. Bada. Rev. A. A. Bada advised, as suggested by Rev Agbaza, that we make it a compound name, but the elders in Metro Parish objected still. There were incessant fighting, unruly behavior, peaceful co-existence and worship became a thing of the past. The election of a new “Parochial Committee” became the last straw that broke the camel’s back. We had no other option, at this point, but to leave and to praise and worship our God in an atmosphere conducive for this purpose.

After this series of events, Rev Agbaza registered the new parish with the D.C. government. We were one hundred and ten (110) members that worshipped for the first time at the Riverdale Recreation Park. We worshipped at the firehouse on Bladensburg Road, Bunker Hill Road in Mt. Rainer MD. We were referred to as the itinerant parish, until we finally got 5801 Tuxedo Road, Cheverly, MD. We registered with the Maryland State Government. It is pertinent to mention that (now) Washington-Luli Parish came into existence during the lent period – between March and April. We remained at 5802 Tuxedo Road for about twelve years. Our rented worship building caught fire and God, in his loving kindness, provided us our current place of worship – 8723 Ashwood Drive, Capital Heights, MD 20743.
